I Need My Girlfriends More Than Ever
Listening to “Friends Are Everything,” a song about the value of friendships by Bratz, I found myself reminiscing the memories after hearing the line “And even when the times get tough We’ll make it through with all of us.” We are two months of the coronavirus pandemic and while I’m reflecting back on past memories, I couldn’t help but be more grateful for the strong women in my life.
We live in an anxiety-inducing world where we immerse ourselves in distraction for what’s happening right now in the world. For me, I’m caring about having a strong bond with my family and girlfriends.
Nothing fills my heart in hearing the voices of my girlfriends: getting in a group Facetime call to learn the latest gossip on acquaintances or former friends from school; texting each other tweets and memes and laugh until our stomachs hurt; watch and talk about the latest Insecure episode; vent about the boys we’ve once loved before; sharing secrets about the future; and most importantly, spending every second lifting and empowering each other through everything. Seeing each other, regardless of how this pandemic has impacted everything else, makes a big difference. Just to know that my girlfriend’s unconditional love is giving me life right now and it is something that I will never take for granted.
For those who are reading this, call your girlfriends right now, because being around the girls is all that matters.
